“Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” Matthew 1:23
We hear the exclamation, “Happy Holidays” a lot during this time of the year! And for some this is what this season represents; just a holiday, time to party, give gifts and to travel.
Still, there are others who ignore the season altogether. They love Jesus but do not believe that we should celebrate His birth. The reasons for not recognizing the season of His birth range from, we don’t know when He was born to we shouldn’t esteem one day over the others, etc.
I am so glad that we were given freedom of choice. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. Personally, I enjoy celebrating Christ’s birth. As the song says, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year” to me! I love reflecting on the Christmas story. I still marvel at how our Savior came to this world in such a humble and modest fashion. I think about Mary and how uncomfortable she must have been at nine months pregnant traveling many miles over the hills and valleys so that Jesus could be born in Bethlehem. I wonder about the first sounds that Jesus uttered from His lips. I am sure they were so precious to Joseph and Mary’s ears.
Moreover, I love to hear the sounds of the Christmas carols and jingle of the Christmas bells. Oh, and the aroma of cakes, pies and turkeys baking can send anyone into a frenzy. There are so many reasons that I love and enjoy this special season. But most of all, I am so glad that I know the only reason for the season—Christ is Born!
And guess what, Jesus is the reason that I am in Pennsylvania this morning. We are taking a little downtime before things get hectic again. Who better to spend downtime with other than Jesus. We are headed to “Sound and Sight to see the play “Jesus.” I know it’s going to be spectacular because all of their plays are so alive and high tech.
I might have traveled miles to see the play, but I carry “Jesus” with me everywhere I go because He lives in my heart.
Merry Christmas
