He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.” Psalm 91:1-2 NKJV
I don’t mean to sound somber and pessimistic; however, the words in the title describe the environment that surrounds us in the natural realm. The good news is we live in 2 worlds, the natural and spiritual. We are both natural beings and spiritual beings. Despite the turbulence in the natural realm, we thrive in the spiritual realm if we dwell in the secret place of the Most High. El Shaddai, the Almighty God, has us covered under the shadow of His wings, a place of refuge and strength.
Many of us know Psalm 91 by rote or heart. If we didn’t have it memorized before 9-11, we know it now. God forewarned us that we would have to navigate through some challenging seasons. Along with this notification, He also gave us some precious promises. He said in Isaiah 43:2, When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.
God will not allow the situations we face to be so massive that His grace cannot protect us. He never promised us that He wouldn’t allow adversity to test us. He said they would. God doesn’t save us from everything, but He safely brings us through everything. Trials and tests are for our growth and development. We would never experientially know God’s character and faithfulness if we didn’t undergo hardships and difficult seasons.
Like most of you, I have experienced dark and unwelcome days, but when I look back on those times I see God’s love, mercy, and hand in them. I wouldn’t be the person I am today had I not experienced loss, sickness, disappointment, and betrayal. These tribulations help shape Christ in us, His nature and likeness. God wants us to be our best selves, the person He designed before the foundation of the world, so that we can fulfill our purposes and walk in our destinies.
Dark, Dangerous, and Difficult days have a purpose. The light shines brighter in darkness. God proves His ability to protect and preserve in danger. And His strength manifests in weakness and difficulty.
If we change our perspective concerning these Dark, Dangerous, and Difficult times, we will realize they are for our good and God’s glory.
Pray,
Lord, give me clear spiritual vision; help me to see as you see.
