“…For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Joshua 1:8 NKJV
The beginning of a New Year is exciting to most of us. We set goals and make resolutions to do better than the previous years. This is not a bad thing. We should resolve to evolve and improve with each passing year.
But goals and resolutions without Wisdom usually spell disaster. It’s not unusual for us to abandon our goals and resolutions during the first leg of the journey. Why is this the case? Is it because we don’t consider the work it will take to achieve our goals? Or maybe we didn’t analyze why we failed many times in the past. Better yet, did we give thought to the hard work it will take to get a new mindset?
Wisdom is the principal thing we will need on this New Year’s journey. If we don’t apply Wisdom to our desires and efforts, we will come to the end of another year with unfinished aspirations.
The book of Proverbs tells us that Wisdom cries out, but we have a tendency to ignore her. Applying Wisdom to our New Year’s objectives means packing tons of patience for the journey. Because more than likely, we will not experience instant success. Recognizing and celebrating the little wins along the way should appease your palate for instant gratification.
Oh, and don’t forget, the road will not be smooth. You will encounter bumps along the way. They aren’t there to hinder you or impede your progress but for you to climb on. Use them to hoist you to greater heights so that you can see beyond the horizon to your finish line.
Also, remember discouragement will try to hitch a ride. It’s up to you whether you will permit it to cling on as a pesky back seat driver. When it tries to take a free ride as an intruder, remember how Paul kept his spirits high during his race, and he never fell into despair. He sang and made melody in his heart to the Lord. (Ephesians 5:19). Your joyful sounds will cause discouragement to lose its grip.
This goes without saying, but I will say it anyway, don’t start your journey depending on your physical or mental strength; seek guidance and inspiration from your Maker; after all, He is your GPS. He has taken many passengers to their destination unscathed.
If you tuck these wisdom tips in your pocket and refer to them periodically, you will navigate successfully through the obstacles designed for your demise. And maybe, just maybe, at the end of 2022, you will have the testimony of Paul—“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith…” (2 Timothy 4:7). Not literally, of course.
Lord, thank You for helping me achieve my goals and aspirations for 2022. I want to be a new me in this new year!
