“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.” (10:24 NLT)
Most of us have heard a commencement speech that inspired us. While we were soaking in the words, we felt like we could conquer the world; all of our aspirations would be achieved. The spoken words challenged, empowered, and spurred us on to be the best we could be.
God designed us to be agents of inspiration. In this challenging and uncertain environment, it isn’t easy to stay focused and maintain our momentum without others’ encouragement. God created us to be inter-relational. We can’t live successfully in isolation. Most countries cannot prosper and be their best without the aid of other countries. As much as we might like to be, we are not self-sufficient. None of us have all of the gifts and skills necessary to sustain ourselves.
Paul explains in 1 Corinthians 12:17-20 (TPT) how the body of Christ is interconnected and dependent on each member working together to achieve wholeness. “Think of it this way. If the whole body were just an eyeball, how could it hear sounds? And if the whole body were just an ear, how could it smell different fragrances? But God has carefully designed each member and placed it in the body to function as he desires.A diversity is required, for if the body consisted of one single part, there wouldn’t be a body at all!So now we see that there are many differing parts and functions, but one body.”
Since we need each other, we should inspire one another to be our personal best. We hear many messages about living your best life. We can’t live our best life as a solo soldier or lone ranger.
Isaiah 41: 6-7 (MEV) demonstrates inspiration. “Every one helped his neighbor, and every one said to his brother, “Be of good courage.” So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith, and he who smooths metal with the hammer encourages him who strikes the anvil, saying, “It is ready for the soldering”; and he fastened it with nails so that it should not totter.”
These workers’ labor is not a task that glorifies God because they are crafting idols. However, we can glean from their support of one another. They are each others’ inspiration, keeping up the momentum to finish the work.
The writer of Hebrews admonishes us, “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.” (10:24 NLT)
During these challenging times, many are worried, depressed, and hopeless. They could use a “pick me up.” Inspiration doesn’t have to be expensive to be priceless.
Let’s ponder these questions, who are you inspiring? Who are you lifting? Who are you encouraging? Have you sent a personal note or made a phone call to brighten someone’s day? Did you speak to the panhandler, or did you avoid his gaze? People are hurting, and they need a small gesture of love. Will you be that LOVE today?
Pray…
Lord help me to show ‘You’ in my actions and words. May I be the instrument of love that someone needs? In Jesus’ name, Amen.
