Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:12
It has been a long time since I sat in a movie theater, so I had to reminisce about the movies I have seen in the past. The above title is a faithful saying and was inspired by the movie Creed 2 that I saw during the holiday season over a year ago. As I sat in my cozy seat, I was actually anticipating and wondering what had my daughter gotten us into. She suggested that my husband and I see the movie Creed 2. I know I am telling on myself, no, I didn’t see or read about Creed part 1. As the drama unfolded, I became a little tense, not unusual for me with action movies. I drew up, partly covered my eyes, wiggled in my seat, and prayed for the underdog (Like he needed it).
As Sylvester Stallone (Rocky) was coaching and encouraging his young boxer, Michael B. Jordan (Creed), from the sidelines, my mind drifted all the way back to the nineties when I was a fairly new preacher and preaching my first three-night revival. My spiritual father, Rev. Chester A. McDonald, Sr., came to support me on the last night of the revival. He sat behind me in the pulpit, which made me a little nervous and also very proud. At one point in the message, I heard that familiar voice say, P-R-E-A-C-H, Caretha! It warmed my heart to hear my spiritual father encouraging me to do my best. As a matter of fact, it sent me into another gear. I believe I made him proud to be his spiritual daughter, the first that he licensed and the only one that he ordained.
When my spiritual father called my name, I felt like I could not fail. How could I with my daddy in my corner rooting for me? This is precisely how all of us should feel 24/7 because our heavenly Father is always in the stands cheering us on as we are fighting the good fight of faith. Consider this, the most powerful Being in the universe is calling us by name, affirming and reassuring us of who we are and what He has graced us with. And it’s just like our Daddy to add a little spice to the punch by placing a great cloud of witnesses around us applauding and encouraging us as well.
For many of us, it is our time…start winning! Go where others dare to go and do what others dare to do. It was foolishness for Creed to get in the boxing ring with a dude almost twice his size. However, Creed knew it was his time and his fight.
Ladies and gentlemen, sisters and brothers it’s your time and your fight. Get in the ring, duck every swing, avoid every punch, bounce off the ropes, dance like a butterfly, use your spiritual muscles and knock out every foe—WIN the battle. This is not the time to shrink back or retreat, face the enemy with faith, boldness, and courage, then step forth as the champion that you are.
It’s Your Time…Fight…Win…Thrive!
Pray…
Father, thank You for calling me by my name as I fight the good fight of faith. I am a fighter and a winner. Thank You for the victory!
