“But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 19:14 (NKJV)
At the beginning of a new year, many of us choose a keyword to keep us on track. My word last year was straightforward, “FOCUS.” I started the year with tunnel vision, but quickly something unforeseen derailed me and shattered my view. Thus, my sight was cloudy for most of the year. Needless to say, I didn’t complete my goals, which was very disheartening.
I was very thoughtful and careful about my choice of a keyword for 2020. I meditated on it and asked the Lord for His input. It was so simple; I overlooked it. Yes, that’s the word for the year, “Simple.” Not just for me, however, but for the body of Christ.
God, with His sense of humor, gave me an illustration of how “simple” looks. I was in a store standing in line waiting to pick up some items when a cart carrying a 2-year old girl passed the line. The little girl eagerly and cheerfully waved her hands and said hello to each of us. She didn’t seem to be concerned about how we would respond or what we thought of her. In her innocence, she did what came naturally to her. In my spirit, I heard, see, this is what I mean.
As we grow and mature, we lose that sense of innocence and childlikeness. (Please don’t confuse this with childishness.) God wants each of us to return to that place where life was simple and easy to trust Him. Our world system has done its part in helping to complicate our lives.
Jesus was enraged when the disciples tried to hinder the little children from coming to Him. He declared that we must come to Him as little children to enter the kingdom of heaven. How simple is that? Many times in Scripture, Jesus and the apostles refer to us as little children or little ones.
God never complicated anything. We have decided to be deep to impress others. Word to those who have an ear to hear, God is not impressed with your deep, complicated life.
Many of our issues and concerns would be resolved if we simplified our lives. That is, get rid of all the unnecessaries; be natural, plain, and authentic.
As one news commentator would say, “Now you have it!”
Declare…
Lord, I hear what you are saying, and I repent for trying to be something that you never meant for me to be. I will return to the “basic simple life” so that you can be glorified through me.
