“When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What are these stones?’
Joshua 4:21
There are times when we need to think about the past or look back. Looking back doesn’t necessarily mean that we should attempt to go back. Reflecting is a means of assessing our progress.
We are about to embark on a new decade—the 2010s are almost over, and the 2020s are upon us. Fascinating but true. Before we cross over the threshold, let’s access our goals over the past decade. Where are we on our life’s journey?
We are getting older for sure, but are our achievements in sync with our aging? Here are a few questions to ponder:
- What did I achieve over the past ten years?
- What should I have done that I didn’t do, that would have made a considerable difference in my overall well-being?
- What will my focus be over the next decade?
These reflective questions should help us position ourselves for a strong decade ahead.
We have to look back and access the past to see our successes and failures. Reflecting gives us a proper perspective on where we need to make improvements and where we need to put our priorities for the next season.
God commanded the Israelites to set up stones of remembrance so that they would never forget His goodness and mercy toward them. This model could be useful for us, even in the 2020s.
Our Lord established His table, “Holy Communion,” as a means for us to reflect on His words and works.
The Christmas season is always a time of reflection. We look back to the manager and rejoice that the Christ-child came to redeem us. We look forward to the day that He will receive us in glory.
While we are celebrating the birth of our Savior, let’s take some time to recall the 2010s and make preparation for a vibrant future.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
“For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
