“No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage…” Joshua 1:5-6
Fear has a way of gripping the heart and paralyzing the mind. It has bullied and marginalized countless people. Many didn’t fulfill their dreams or accomplish their assignments due to the enemy of fear.
Harriet Tubman was not among those who allowed this tormenting spirit to arrest her. She had a dream in her heart to be free from slavery and to bring others to freedom. She accomplished her heart’s desire with good courage and strong faith.
As I watched the movie “Harriet,” the story based on her life and legacy, tension ran through every fiber of my body. My body was tight with wonderment, but I was proud of my black hero. Watching Harriet stand fearlessly in the face of danger infused me with next dimension encouragement. She reminded me that I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me.
One of the commands God repeats on numerous occasions in Scripture is, “do not fear!” He knows the spirit of fear can imprison our minds diminishing His authority in our lives. He charges us to trust Him with all of our heart, soul, and mind. God promises He will be with us in all situations and at all times.
Harriet knew without a shadow of a doubt God was with her. She had no one to rely on but Him. She displayed a measure of faith no man could match. The key to her success was recognizing and obeying the voice of God. She took authority and stood in it, gaining respect as the most celebrated abolitionist and woman of courage and bravery.
The power Harriet operated in is available to all of God’s children. It’s the same power that raised Jesus from the dead. Yet, we allow fear to hinder us from achieving God’s mandates on our lives.
My sisters and brothers, it’s past time for us to “Christ-up” and walk in victory. The whole earth is waiting for us to lay aside frivolous pursuits, to put our heads and hearts in the game, and give God our best. When we stand in unity with the Harriet kind of courage, the Light and glory of our Lord and King will cover the earth. Sin and fear will be reduced to a whimpering foe lower than “Gideon Brodess” during the finale of the movie, “Harriet.”
“Fear is your enemy!”
Pray…
Lord, I must confess, I have allowed the spirit of fear to hinder me from diligently moving forward in my assignments. I ask You to forgive me and to strengthen me for the journey ahead. Complete what is lacking in my faith. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
