“Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you.” 1 Peter 4:12 (NLT)
A few friends and I were talking about some of the things that seem to plague us continuously. We can’t seem to get a handle on them. They are constant companions; we can’t seem to understand or pray them away. Our concerns involve other people, those who are tied to our heartstrings.
I usually coin situations and things. My coin for this situation is “There is always something nipping at your heels.” It comes from a vision I have of a little dog, much like a chihuahua tugging and sniffing at my heels. And no matter what I say or do, he is relentless in his efforts to take a small bite of my flesh.
After living life almost through my sexagenarian years, I have concluded that “nipping” is a part of life, and even if we try to run away from it, we will run into it.
Everybody has something tugging at them, even the so-called care-free people. It’s a part of life.
For those of us who are in ministry and have been anointed of God to carry the torch, we might as well settle in our minds; it cost to carry the anointing. There is a price we have to pay for doing the work of the Lord. Demolishing strongholds and retrieving lost ground doesn’t come without a considerable price tag.
Our adversary is not going to sit back and watch us snatch souls out of his camp without resistance. Neither is he going to throw a party while we help God’s people become free of baggage and weights.
Great work means great opposition.
What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us (Romans 8:31)?
My sisters and brothers, we don’t have to despair, God has promised, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” Paul was delighted to have the “nipping.” He declared, “So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me” (2 Corinthian 12:9 NLT).
Furthermore, we know our labor is not in vain in the Lord.
Pray …
Lord, I am delighted that You called me to be Your servant. Even though the load gets heavy, I will depend on You to help me share the load. Thanks for giving me the portion of grace that I need for every situation. In Jesus’ name, amen.

I love your description of the aggravating nipping dog. Great way in describing
Thanks. Those little dogs are small but they have an aggravating bark.
Soooo true Apostle! Something is ALWAYS nipping at our heels! But thank God for His grace which is sufficient for every situation. Thank you for encouraging me to day to press forward despite the “nipping” and to focus on the purpose and the prize! May God continue to use you as a scribe in the Kingdom of God! Love and appreciate you! — Blessen
You are welcome, Pastor Blessen. Yes, we have to stay focused on the goal.
