Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth! Psalm 46:10
Recently I completed one of the most rewarding devotionals that I have ever had the opportunity to read and meditate on. I browsed the LifeWay Christian Bookstore in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in late February, looking for a resource that would challenge and fortify me during the year. I sauntered around the store until I felt that I had found the perfect book. I want to assure you that after reading 100 days of thought-provoking inspirations by Cheryl Wunderlich, I was not disappointed with my choice. She helped to keep my spirit lifted during one of the most hectic periods of my life.
Each day as I read how God used adversity to shape her faith and teach her what’s most important in life, it gave me insight and clarity into the ways of God.
In Sacred Rest[1], author, Cheryl Wunderlich opens up her heart and shares with the world her journey through personal challenges and the path she paved to Finding the Sabbath in the Everyday. In my opinion, this book is designed to help all of us who are on the treadmill of “life” to find what we need most, rest.
Many Christian women servants like myself love seeing results, and we will do whatever it takes to produce a work of excellence even if it means doing a difficult task as a solo soldier. Our environment has taught us to work hard to achieve significance. Therefore, we lose our balance and sometimes miss the primary target, spending quality time with the God we serve.
Rest doesn’t come naturally for most Achievers, but it’s a still quiet sport that we must cultivate if we want to reflect the nature of our Father. He rested after six days of labor—Selah. He left us a perfect example to follow.
Personally, I cherish quiet moments with God, no music, no TV, no social media, no human voice, and no hurriedness to fulfill a to-do-list. The ordeals of life have convinced me that I need to seek rest and to treasure it like a precious gem.
My sister, my brother…Be Still and Know that He is God! For He leads us beside the still waters and restores our soul.
Pray…
Lord, I know that I can and have lost my focus on many occasions. Teach me to keep the main thing as the main thing. When it’s all said and done, all that matters is that I know You. Thank You for the reminder to rest. Amen.
