If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.
Proverbs 24:10
Just like the astronomical seasons, we go through seasonal changes in our lives some of which are undesirable. For instance, in winter, we experience periods of silence, isolation, cold and darkness, which are difficult and very challenging. It’s a time of testing and endurance. We tend to doubt the promises of God and isolate ourselves from others when we are going through this difficult season, leaving ourselves vulnerable to the attacks of the enemy.
God allows the winter season because it is an essential component of our spiritual growth and development. Our character and motive for serving are under scrutiny. It’s during this season that we learn to trust God’s heart even when we can’t trace His hand.
Once the wilderness test of winter has passed, God calls us away to a new season. The colorful, sunshiny days of spring return when we can see and hear His voice more clearly. Solomon was delighted to announce to his beloved the good news that, “For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come…” (Song of Solomon 2:11-12)
Yes, the time of rejoicing will come if we don’t faint during the dark, cold days of adversity. We will emerge into our new season with stronger bones to dance with, more pearls of wisdom for the journey and a new perspective on the ways of God. So, don’t die in the winter…spring is on its way!
Pray…
Lord give me the strength and faith to endure the harshness and loneliness of the winter season so that I might learn to trust you more!
