“…Fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
Philippians 2:2
As I was musing on these words that Paul wrote to the Philippians, I could see in a vision, the North Korean soldiers marching in cadence. They are so synchronized that they look like little robots. Regardless of their philosophy, they are on one accord when they are marching.
I believe this is the kind of harmony that Paul is urging believers to demonstrate. We should be acting, loving, speaking and worshiping in such unison, that we have the appearance of being robotic. We know God does not desire that we be robots, but He does desire that all believers conduct themselves in a manner that exemplifies oneness in spirit.
Paul was in prison when he wrote the little letter of Philippians to the citizens of Philippi. Being in prison was disconcerting enough without hearing that the saints were divisive. Paul expressed, that his joy would be running over the brim, if the saints were on one accord, being of the same mindset and loving one another.
Paul knew what all mature Christians should know, that God desires and commands that all believers walk in unity and when we do, He commands the blessings upon our lives. Psalm 133:1,4 states, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! … For there the Lord commanded the blessing—Life forevermore.”
There are several positive demonstrations of unity in the Scriptures. Why do I say positive? Because there are times in the Bible when people worked together in harmony for their own selfish ambition. For example, the building of the tower of Babel (Genesis 11) was a selfish act. The people planned to build a tower that would reach heaven in order to make a great name for themselves. “God, Himself, recognized that the people were ONE; they were united in mind, purpose and effort. God even stated that because the people were united in purpose, nothing would stop them from reaching their goals.[1]” See, how powerful unity is?
In Second Chronicles 5, God was so pleased with the unity of the trumpeters and singers during the dedication of Solomon’s temple, that He, Himself filled the temple as a cloud. It was so powerful that the priest could not stand to minister.
We see another demonstration of unity in the Book of Acts (chapter 2) that changed the course of the world. On the day of Pentecost, one hundred and twenty believers were united in prayer. The Holy Spirit descended in the Upper Room where they were praying and sat on each of them and filled them with power to speak in a language unknown to them. Thus, was the birthing of the Church.
In Acts 5, God was able to work many signs and wonders through the hands of the Apostles, because the people were on one accord. Many were saved and every sick person that was brought into the Apostles midst was healed, regardless of the disease or how long they had been sick.
Do you long to see this kind of miraculous movement of God…people being saved by the thousands and everyone who comes near a man or woman of God is healed, delivered and set free? I don’t know about you, but that is my desire.
It can happen on our watch! We just need to obey the Word and demonstrate oneness in the spirit. If evil people can unite for evil purposes and accomplish whatever they set their minds to do, why can’t blood bought Christians stand together, being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind?
Declare…
I am starting a unity movement and it begins with me.
