And the Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.”
Exodus 14:15
It is not unusual for people to get stuck on this journey called life. A journey implies that we are in motion, moving from one place to another, generally with a destination in mind. God has given all of us a destiny and purpose for living which He desires for us to accomplish or fulfill. Sadly, many of us start out on our journey with boldness and gusto, only to lose faith and hope and forfeit reaching our destination.
Just like the children of Israel did when they were taking their journey from Egypt, the land of bondage, to Canaan, the land of promise. In Exodus 14:8, we are told that they went out of Egypt with boldness. The children of Israel were full of confidence and determination when they started their journey. However, in just 2 short verses, they lost all hope and became fearful and fainted-hearted. Why? Because, Pharaoh and his army were pursuing them.
Despite the fact that God had already equipped them with the mental, emotional and psychological stamina that they needed for the journey, they fainted when they were faced with trouble. When God displayed His miraculous power over Pharaoh’s magicians and astrologers, it was not only to gain honor over Pharaoh and to amplify God’s personhood, but it also served to strengthen His people by building their faith, courage and confidence. However, we can see by their response to Pharaoh’s pursuit, that their strength was small and they fainted in the day of adversity (see Proverbs 24:10).
They were hemmed in on all sides (the Red Sea in front, mountains on both sides, and Pharaoh’s army behind). They could not see a way out…God told Moses to tell the people…MOVE on! They couldn’t allow anything to hinder them from coming out of bondage. Their destiny was too huge. It was through them that the Savior would be born. Jesus could be born in poverty, but the Man who was coming to make all men free, could “not” be born in captivity. So, they had no other choice, but to keep it moving and to complete their assignment.
God also equips each of us for our individual journey as well. He gives us everything we need to make the journey. God never calls anyone or give us an assignment without first putting in us what we need to accomplish the task. However, on numerous occasions, we allow obstacles to hinder our progress or cause us to abort our destiny.
Many times, we are overcome with disappointment and become discouraged to the point of giving up. Or, we listen to the chatter of naysayers who cause us to weaken our resolve. Sometimes we allow the memories of hurt and pain to stop us from moving forward. Often, we allow fear and intimidation to paralyze us and keep us in a holding pattern.
In spite of the trouble and difficulty that we might have to face on our journey, we must MOVE on! Our destiny depends on it and our assignment is too important for us to faint and give up.
Moses’ admonition to the children of Israel was, “Do not fear! Stand firm and see the salvation of the Lord that he will provide for you today; for the Egyptians that you see today you will never, ever see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you can be still” Exodus 14:13-14 (NET).
These words should also propel us forward. There is no reason to be paralyzed with fear when God is with us and for us. Still your heart and allow God to show Himself mighty on your behalf. If He is for you, He is more than any disappointments, naysayers, hurts and pains, or any other obstacles that might be against you.
Pray and Declare…
Lord, you have given me a destiny and I will not allow adversity to cause me to abort my assignment. Even when I can’t see a way out or through, I will stand strong, knowing that you are for me and with me.
