Do You want to be made whole?
John 5:6
I recently read, Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts’s memoir, “Everybody’s Got Something.”[1] She titled this book after one of her mother’s favorite sayings, “Everybody’s Got Something.” What a true and profound statement. As a minister of the Gospel, I know this to be true, because, over the years, I have listened to so many stories of broken lives. I am sure you are a witness to this truth as well. If you take a look around you, look within, and look out into this chaotic world, you will see shattered lives everywhere.
Many people try to compensate for their brokenness by chasing the riches and pleasures of this world. While others wear a mask to cover their dysfunction or resort to levity. Unfortunately, so many people pretend “all is well” even though they are crumbling on the inside. None of us has it all together…we are not perfect human beings. All of us have “something” that we would like to forget, bury or rid ourselves of. It could be a generational weakness, an annoying habit, a mistake or misstep, an illness, a failure or a deficiency.
Yes, “Everybody’s Got Something” and it’s not uncommon for people to be ashamed of their “something.” I used to be embarrassed and ashamed of mine. But, no more! When I came to the knowledge that, “Everybody’s Got Something,” somehow, it just made me feel better. It made me feel normal to be among all of the other people who have “something.” Although, coming to this realization did help me accept my “something,” it wasn’t the solution for my brokenness. I still needed to be made “whole.”
It wasn’t until I desired it bad enough and yielded myself to the Great Physician, that I started my journey to wholeness. The Holy Spirit began to heal and deliver me from abandonment, shyness, shame due to being reared in an environment of scarcity, a wounded spirit and many other things. I have not arrived. However, I have received enough healing that God trusts me to minister healing to His precious children. As I minister to others, God continues to minister healing to me.
Jesus asked the man lying around the pool of Bethesda, “Do you want to be made whole (well)?” This man had been in his condition for 38 years waiting for someone to put him in the pool when the healing waters were stirred. He wasted 38 years of his life WAITING instead of taking the initiative for his healing.
Jesus is asking the same question today… “Do you want to be delivered from your SOMETHING?” Or, have you become too comfortable compensating and camouflaging it that you would rather live with it? You don’t have to live in shame, guilt, pain or regret any longer. Just surrender your situation to the Healer and He will deliver you and make you whole.
Pray…
Lord, I realize I am not whole, but I desire to be. I know You are the only One who can make me well. I am asking that You give me the strength to reach out for my deliverance and healing. I don’t want to waste precious time living with less than the abundant life You have provided for me.
