Whoever digs a pit will fall into it, and he who rolls a stone will have it roll back on him.
Proverbs 26:27
Many times out of anger and vindictiveness, people will set traps for others, hoping they will be harmed by falling into it. However, be careful, the Bible warns of the consequences of entrapment. Usually when we are weaving a web for someone else’s downfall, we end up getting caught in it ourselves.
An excellent illustration of this can be found in the Book of Esther. A man named Haman, was given a respectable position in the king’s courts. The king decreed that everyone was to honor him by bowing in his presence. Mordecai, a Jew, would not dishonor his God by bowing down and paying homage to a man. This made Haman furious. So much so, that he couldn’t enjoy some of the pleasures of his esteemed position.
Haman discussed the matter with his wife and friends, who suggested that he should build gallows to hang Mordecai. Haman was quite pleased with the idea and had the gallows built. This wicked plot, however, proved to be fatal for Haman when he mistakenly upsets the king. Out of his fury toward Haman, the king gave orders for him to be hung on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai.
Talk about a turn of events. Not only was Haman snared by his own trap, but the Jewish people gained attention and found favor with the king because of Haman’s wicked attitude toward God’s people (Esther 7).
On many occasions, Jesus was the object of entrapment, especially by the Pharisees, Sadducees and scribes. In John 8, a group of men brought an adulteress woman to Jesus, hoping He would break the Law of Moses. The situation boomeranged, however, when Jesus asked them to cast a stone at the woman, if they were without sin. One by one, they hung their heads in shame and walked away. Instead of exposing Jesus and causing punishment for the woman, they were convicted of their own sins.
Can you see why you should think about your own flaws before weaving a web for others? It could be your own trap!
Meditate on these Scriptures:
“He made a pit and dug it out, And has fallen into the ditch which he made. His trouble shall return upon his own head, And his violent dealing shall come down on his own crown.”
Psalm 7:15, 16
“Keep me from the snares they have laid for me, And from the traps of the workers of iniquity. Let the wicked fall into their own nets, While I escape safely.”
Psalm 141:9-10
“The nations have sunk down in the pit which they made; In the net which they hid, their own foot is caught.
Psalm 9:15
“They have prepared a net for my steps; My soul is bowed down; They have dug a pit before me; Into the midst of it they themselves have fallen. Selah”
Psalm 57:6
“Whoever causes the upright to go astray in an evil way, He himself will fall into his own pit; But the blameless will inherit good.”
Proverbs 28:10
“He who digs a pit will fall into it, And whoever breaks through a wall will be bitten by a serpent.”
Ecclesiastes 10:8
“So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king’s wrath subsided.”
Esther 7:10

This was so timely. I’m praying right now for someone who is now wallowing in the pit they dug for me and others. Gotta always forgive. Classmate you are such an inspiration. You’ve motivated me to stop thinking and talking about creating a blog but to be about DOIN IT.
thank you
