For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Romans 8:18
I am more than convinced that our true destiny is birthed through pain. Many people wonder why they have to suffer the way that they are suffering or have suffered. For example, so many children suffer growing up in homes that lack love and nurture. Some of them are deprived of the very necessities of life. Yet, many do survive their plight and become functioning adults. However, it’s not without carrying scars and emotional baggage.
There was a time in my life that I wondered if God could use my pain and suffering. I have a tendency to suffer in silence. But, through the years, God has proven to me that He doesn’t waste anything, not even our pain and suffering. Because of the things I have suffered, it has made me more sensitive toward the adversities and needs of others. Sometimes, we don’t even know that we are hurting. We just think that it’s normal to act and react the way that we do.
Think about the pain that my favorite Bible character, Joseph, must have suffered. He was a child when he was treated cruelly by his brothers and sold to strangers who took him far from his homeland. Joseph spent many years separated from his family and culture. He was lied on, which landed him in prison for a number of years. Talk about pain…it had to be painful. But his pain was his ticket to destiny! Without the adversity in his life, Joseph wouldn’t have been positioned and prepared for his assignment as second-in-command in Egypt.
My beloved, pain is pain, no matter what form it takes, it injures the body, mind, emotions and spirit. While trying to make sense of the pain, we usually turn to sources outside of ourselves for answers. And when the pain gets to be almost unbearable, we cry out to God, even if we are wondering if He really exits. This is the cry of destiny.
Many times, we begin to recognize our destiny when we go through the hard places of pressure and trial. When our eyes and spirits are open and receptive, the pain begins to make sense. We realize and affirm, “It was necessary for me to take this journey, so that I could live out my life’s purpose.”
We don’t always understand the whys and ways of God. But, one thing that is certain, the path that we trod was designed to bring us face to face with destiny. So, instead of sulking and wishing for a different path, accept the one that you are on, knowing that God will use every tear, every misstep, and every disappointment for His glory! Pain is just destiny being formed and revealed in us.
Remember, Christ had to suffer in order for His destiny to be revealed. “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day…” (Luke 24:46). He also learned obedience through the things He suffered (Hebrews 5:8).
Romans 8:18, which I quoted above, is my lifeline!
Pray…
Lord, even though the purpose of my journey may be a mystery right now, give me the strength and fortitude to accept that it will lead me to my destiny. You are God and much wiser than I, so I will follow Your lead. Thank You for choosing me for such a time as this!
