“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Matthew 11:29-30
How many times have you seen very young children trying to drag or carry a bag or some other object that was much too heavy for their little undeveloped muscles to move? Nevertheless, they are determined to be useful or to exhibit their independence. Their unsuccessful attempts, many times, cause them to become frustrated to the point of crying and giving up.
Children aren’t the only ones who try to carry things that are too heavy for them to carry. Adults are guilty of the same thing. We are constantly faced with circumstances, issues and situations that are too much for us to bear alone, yet we attempt to go solo.
Moses, a great leader in biblical days was such a person. He was given the responsibility of leading thousands of adults and children from Egypt, the land of bondage, to Canaan, the Land of Promise. Of course, during this great exodus, the people were faced with many concerns, disputes and challenges. Who did they turn to for a resolve…Moses, of course, since he was their leader and Moses foolishly tried to bring a resolution to every case.
One day Moses’ father-in-law, Jethro, visited him and witnessed how he was personally interacting with each individual or family unit that had issues or concerns. Jethro knew this behavior would soon take its toll on Moses and wear him down. Moses was trying to do the impossible—to be a counselor for thousands of people. His father-in-law advised him to delegate the work by choosing qualified men to help him with this task. Fortunate for Moses, he listened to sound wisdom.
Many of us also try to be superman or superwoman when we are faced with various tests and trials. We try to carry the load alone no matter how heavy, complicated or difficult it is. We justify being a “Solo Soldier” with the excuse that we don’t want to bother anyone with our problems, or that they are too embarrassing to share. Moreover, we fear that we will appear to look foolish or that others will gossip about us.
Even more absurd, we even refuse to go to God about them, because we don’t want to disturb or bother Him. So we suffer in silence, carrying a heavy load that is destroying us when there is more than enough help at our disposal. Carrying a load of grief, debt, disappointment, misunderstanding, rejection, illness and other concerns, will eventually take its toll on us and wear us down physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually if we don’t get relief. We cannot run this Christian race burdened with a load of care.
Hebrews 12:1 admonishes us to, “…Lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” We are not designed to bear our burdens alone (Gal. 6:2). So, why are you trying to carry it? Share the load with your heavenly Father or a trusted loved one. You will feel so much lighter and gain strength for the journey.
Pray…
Lord, give me the wisdom to share my burdens.

Thank you Apostle for this very timely word!!! God knows what you need, exactly when you need it, Hallelujah!!!
You are welcome! He is a faithful God.
We are without excuse after reading your blog, Dr. Crawford. God has given us the remedy to walk out this life without the proverbial stress and anxiety that often plague mankind. We are instructed in Scripture to cast all our cares on Him. Thank you for a fresh look at the importance of releasing our burdens to God. He can handle it!
You are so right Pastor Hewlette!
